Copacabana is the most important center of Titikaka Lake. Copacabana town is originally a ceremonial center and a pre-Columbian astronomic observatory which was destroyed by the Spanlards, its traces were left in the lithic ruins that are in the outside parts. In this place was built in the XVI century the beautiful Sanctuary of Virgin of Copacabana, dark image sculptured in wooden by a local indigenous. The altar is covered of gold and silver and the vestemts of the little image full of valuable jewels from the colonial periods.
Tititkaka Lake. At 12.792 feet above sea level with its islands where the Inca culture established important ceremonial centers, like Sun and Moon Islands, the Sun Island is a wonderful attractive in the lake because of the spectacular view with the eternal snow – capped mountains of the Royal Range at the bottom. There we find prehispanic ruins (Yumani – Pilcokaina, Challapampa – Chinkana).
The Moon Island is called Coati, where there are the Ajllahuasi Ruins or House of the selected Sun Virgins located in the northern part of the Island, it has a building of 3 rooms over a conjoint of terraces.
